			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) is a leading Johannesburg based regional foundation established in 1997 by investor and philanthropist George Soros, and is part of the OSI network of foundations located all over the world. The foundations share a common mission of developing more open societies through support to a range of programmes in various areas including education, media, human rights, social, legal and economic reform.</p>
<p>The Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) is an African space for proactive engagement on governance and human rights advocacy; playing a key role in initiating, leading and actively participating in advocacy and related interventions in 10 countries in Southern Africa and on the continent. The Johannesburg-based regional foundation works in Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe (with specialised programme managers in Angola, DRC, Swaziland and Zimbabwe – these being the four countries in which significant structural governance and transition questions still obtain).</p>
<p>OSISA pursues open society ideals using a unique model of flexibility, sensitivity and responsive regional engagement, while maintaining political independence.</p>
<p>OSISA is looking to make the following Johannesburg-based appointments:</p>
<p>EDUCATION PROGRAMME MANAGER</p>
<p>The Education Programme Manager will be responsible for assessing and recommending project support to the board of Trustees&#8217;, overall development and management, monitoring and evaluation, administering of grants of OSISA&#8217;s Education portfolio. The Programme Manager will also be responsible for networking and liaison with donors and stakeholders in 10 countries in southern Africa, including the DRC .</p>
<p>Practical experience in education and capacity building work with civil society organisations is required.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a masters degree, preferably in Education or any other appropriate post- graduate qualification. In addition, the candidate will have at least five years experience in successful implementation of development programmes in Education or a related sector in the SADC region and will have an advanced understanding of the education issues affecting the SADC region.</p>
<p>HIV and AIDS PROGRAMME MANAGER</p>
<p>The HIV and AIDS Programme Manager will be responsible for assessing and recommending project support to the board of Trustees&#8217;, overall development and management, monitoring and evaluation, administering of grants of OSISA&#8217;s HIV and AIDS portfolio. The Programme Manager will also be responsible for networking and liaison with donors and stakeholders in ten countries in southern Africa, including the DRC .</p>
<p>Practical experience in HIV and AIDS and capacity building work with civil society organisations is required.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a masters degree preferably in Public Health, Communication Studies, Development Studies or any other appropriate post- graduate qualification. In addition, the candidate will have at least five years experience in successful implementation of development programmes in HIV and AIDS or a related sector in the SADC region and will have an advanced understanding of the HIV and AIDS issues affecting the SADC region.</p>
<p>For both positions, experience of working in a funding organisation is preferred, the candidates must have excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to facilitate consultative processes. Ability for independent use of computer packages such as MS Word, Excel, Internet and e-mail is a must. The candidates should also be open to innovation and experimentation and have an appreciation of the complex multi-sectoral nature of the response to Education and HIV and AIDS. Excellent verbal and written communication, research and analytical skills are required. Fluency in written and spoken English is a prerequisite and knowledge of some African languages spoken in the region, including knowledge of French and/or Portuguese, is desirable.</p>
<p>An attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experience, including relocation costs within Southern Africa, is offered. Both positions are offered on a three-year contract.</p>
<p>EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT</p>
<p>Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Executive Director of OSISA, the Executive Assistant will ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the Executive Director&#8217;s office, full confidentiality in all aspects of work, supporting the executive management team in the operations of the organisation, management of information flow, and follow-up on deadlines and commitments.</p>
<p>This is an exciting and challenging position suitable for a holder of a university degree in Business Administration or Social Sciences and solid secretarial training. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience as an Executive Assistant, Office Administrator and/or Programme Assistant, is required. Proficiency in the use of modern office equipment and office software packages, such as MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc and the use of web-based databases for information management is very critical.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate must also possess excellent interpersonal skills and initiative, and must be able to speak and write impeccably in English. Command of other business languages of the region, such as French and Portuguese will be an added advantage.</p>
<p>This position is offered on a two-year contract with an attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experienced and is offered to South African citizens only.</p>

<p>As an IT Project and Planning Manager, you will play a key role in managing and delivering multiple strategic projects within the company, often simultaneously. We are looking for intelligent, confident, motivated Project Manager to manage and take responsibility for the delivery of projects. You will report to the IT Director (Project Management Office). You will work with a team of highly dynamic people in a fast paced environment and collaborate with Product Specialists and the Product Steering Group.</p>
<p>Reporting To The Information Technology Director the Following will be the Key Responsibilities:</p>
<p><strong>A. Project management:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Implement project plans, managing them to ensure successful delivery</li>
<li>Apply the PM Methodology to fit the project</li>
<li>Ensure every project is effectively initiated and at completion closed with involvement from business stakeholders</li>
<li>Ensure required project documents are signed off as required by the Project Office</li>
<li>Manage project dependencies and constraints</li>
<li>Plan resource needs and work with team managers to resolve constraints and issues</li>
<li>Effectively raise project related risks and issues and make sure they are resolved</li>
<li>Communicate project progress through effective status reporting</li>
<li>Attend/organise/chair and minute project/development related meetings</li>
<li>Manage project change management</li>
<li>Pro-actively contribute to improvement of PM Methods (tools, processes)</li>
<li>Pro-actively contribute to improvement of IT KPIs</li>

<p><strong>B. Documentation:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Work with the partners to ensure that scope and requirements are accurately specified for projects and that appropriate sign-offs are obtained</li>
<li>Ensure that the development team deliver according to specification</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>C. Development:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ensure project alignment to SDLC through development, deployment and release management</li>
<li>Oversee the development process (i.e. taking software from development, through testing and onto the live server)</li>
<li>Ensure that all the pre-requisites are in place before each new release is made (e.g. development, test pre-live and live environments, roll-back plans)</li>
<li>Manage project / development related bugs to ensure that they are prioritised and rectified</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>D. Testing:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ensure project alignment to testing methodology</li>
<li>Together with the Testing Facilitator, manage testing lifecycle and<br />

<li>University Degree in Business &amp; Computer Science</li>
<li>Project Management Qualification</li>
<li>Solid Technology Project Management experience (5 years or more)</li>
<li>Experience of working with technology development teams</li>
<li>Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience with Project Methodologies</li>
<li>Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience with SDLC’s</li>
<li>Flexible. Must be able to run multiple projects at any one time</li>

Are you an excellent developer with excellent web development skills? Can you demonstrate your skill practically in any of the major languages and web technologies? Are you up-to-date with cutting edge web technologies? Can you document your code and apps that your develop? Do you have access to a computer that you can use for web development work? Do you have spare time to offer your web development skills for hire overseas? Do you want extra cash (in forex!) during your spare time? Are you disciplined and focused? Can you deliver high quality code with documentation on time? Then, consider being a DWB/PWB, a programmer/ developer without borders!</p>
<p>A database is being built of programmers in Africa who are keen to demonstrate their development skills and to earn forex by developing applications (including/especially web apps) for clients overseas. I am part of part of the team working on the Africa Developers project. Preference is given to programmers/developers who live in Africa. However, those who live outside Africa must either have families or dependents in Africa or be willing to work jointly with at least one programmer/developer who live in Africa.</p>

The CV must be in either PDF or openoffice format, i.e, open document text (ODT) format. No specially qualifications are required.</p>

The University is seeking to appoint an experienced academic to join the Information &amp; Communication Technology (ICT) in Education postgraduate programme team. The programme is co-convened by the School of Education and the Centre for Educational Technology at the University of Cape Town. This post is in the Centre for Educational Technology (CET).</p>
<p>In addition to teaching, supervision and research, the applicant will be expected to play a pivotal role in a special project supporting African professionals attending UCT’s postgraduate programme.</p>
<p>The incumbent will be expected to take responsibility for the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>designing and developing ICT in Education postgraduate courses</li>
<li>teaching ICT in Education postgraduate courses</li>
<li>supervising PhD and Master’s students</li>
<li>overseeing the selection of candidates for the African educational technology bursary awards</li>
<li>supporting the bursary recipients</li>
<li>identifying and developing new teaching programmes</li>
<li>identifying and leading niche research areas.</li>
</ul>
<p>In addition, the incumbent is expected to participate, where feasible, in CET’s general activities and projects.</p>
<p>Appointment to this position requires:</p>
<ul>
<li>a PhD at Associate Professor level, OR nearing completion of a PhD at Senior Lecturer level</li>
<li>extensive postgraduate teaching experience</li>
<li>relevant supervision experience with evidence of successful Master’s and (at Associate Professor level) PhD student completion</li>
<li>solid relevant research experience with peer-reviewed outputs</li>
<li>sound knowledge of current research trends in the field of ICTs in Education</li>
<li>experience in supporting students from a variety of backgrounds.</li>
</ul>
<p>In addition to ICT in Education experience, exposure to and experience in higher education teaching and supervising in disciplines other than those directly linked to the ICT in Education area would be advantageous, as would relevant knowledge of the challenges faced by African educational technology professionals.</p>
