The Numbering Plan

This may be old news to some, but for others the following are the changes that you will have to make in your respective phone books, and/or in your dialling patterns during this change in the Numbering Plan. Zambia’s country code remains as 260.

1. Mobile:
   
   Subscriber Number-length will take one extra digit to make total length equal to 7. Refer to examples given below, for a given subscriber number 164972, on different networks:

   Note: Both the old and the new numbers will be active for a period of six months from 1st May, 2007 to 31st October, 2007. Thereafter, the old six digit numbers will be disabled.

2. Landline:
   
   The Fixed-line operator, Zamtel, will now have an NDC (National Destination Code) primarily for identification purposes.

   Or if calling a landline number from a mobile device:

   Note: However, dialling from landline to landline will remain as is now. Both dialling patterns will work for the period of six months from 1st May 2007 to 31st October, 2007.
