iPhone for Zambian Farmers

Caught your eye?  Well, although iPhones are officially not entering the Zambian market on June 29th, following the launch of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) policy, the Zambian government has pledged to provide an enabling environment to allow more private sector participation in expanding services to rural areas that are lagging in technological development and infrastructure. Zambia’s Home Affairs minister, Ronnie Shikapwasha, spoke at the launch of the Celtel network in Keembe, Central Province and explained that Celtel had continued to empower the local people through innovative and affordable services as well as business opportunities.

If every company investing in Zambia was required to help a rural area in terms of development of basic infrastructure, the country would definitely be in alignment with President Levy Mwanawasa’s recent words in The Africa Report, regarding  investment and not aid that will bring about sustainable growth and development in our economies.
